New Jersey and World War II are not something you always here in the same sentence, but it appears at least at one point they were. Nearly 100 years ago there was a naval incident that did happen during the war just miles off the coast right here in Ocean County and it was on this day in history.
On the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the battle of the bulge on Monday December 16, Jersey Shore Congressman Chris Smith introduced a bi-partisan resolution to commend the veterans who fought in one of the most pivotal battles of World War II.
As we think about the men and women who have served our country on this Veterans Day in Ocean County, in addition to the service members who are currently serving, a lot of us are also thinking about family members who are no longer with us who have served in past conflicts.
A ceremony honoring "The Greatest Generation", World War II veterans in Ocean County for their service to our nation was held at the American Legion in Toms River Friday by Shore Congressman Tom MacArthur.
