Seaside Semper 5K Takes Place Saturday in Seaside Heights .... The Seaside Semper 5K Takes Place Saturday (9/14) in Seaside Heights. The event includes both a 5K Run/Walk and a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. Awards will be given to male and female finishers by age group including youth age group trophies.

This Sunday, at any one of five sites around New Jersey, you can help the Garden State move ever closer to ending the AIDS epidemic, and get some fresh air and a good workout in the process.

The festivities take place at Community Park on Bridge Avenue and Beaver Dam Road in Point Pleasant.

I'm always amazed at how popular marathons are. Seeing photos from yesterday's race in New York it's kind of mind boggling that so many people come out to the event. Not only do runners train diligently for it, but scores of volunteers help out, not to mention the family and friends who show up as cheerleaders.I've never even run a 5K race so the thought of hitting the pavement for several HOURS is unbelievable to me. Last summer, participants in the Seaside Semper Five race never had a chance to finish the race. That's because shortly before it began, an explosion rocked the area near the starting line, an act that turned into a terror investigation stretching from Ocean County to New York City.
