State Troopers come to the rescue of 6 boaters in Point Pleasant

Two New Jersey State Troopers are being hailed as heroes after rescuing six people from the Point Pleasant Canal.

Staff Sergeant Paul Rodemann and Trooper I Ryan Koehler from the NJSP Marine Services Bureau Point Pleasant Station were dispatched last Friday August 14 to the water after receiving a report that a 23-foot boat had capsized.

When the troopers arrived they found five victims struggling to stay above water and the other victim struggling to get up from underneath the water.

As they prepared to enter the water to locate the victim though, that individual came up from under the capsized boat.

The troopers helped all the victims to shore, where they were accounted for and transported back to Point Pleasant Station for a medical evaluation by EMS.

There were no reported injuries.

The troopers quick response saved lives, but New Jersey State Police said, "this incident could have quickly become a tragedy due to the fact that none of the boat’s occupants were wearing personal flotation devices (life vests). We would like remind everyone to make sure to have personal flotation devices for each person on board."

In June, NJSP Sergeant Michael Krauchuck helped rescue three people from a boat that was sinking in the Point Pleasant Canal.
