Shore Conference issues statement regarding Coronavirus and impact on spring season
Currently, there is no mandate from the Shore Conference in regards to practices and games for the spring season, Shore Conference president and Middletown Athletic Director Rich Carroll said in an email to member schools on Friday morning.
The Shore Conference Executive Board will hold an emergency call next week to determine any changes that may be necessary to the spring regular season and conference tournaments.
Any decisions to postpone, suspend and/or cancel spring athletic activities are up to the individual districts at this time.
On Thursday, Christian Brothers Academy announced the school, which is located in the Lincroft section of Middletown, would be closed with classes moving to online instruction through at least March 30. All CBA athletics will be suspended until March 29.
The Lakewood School District is preparing to move to online instruction for 30 days, as well, according to a report from News12.
Gov. Murphy is holding a press conference at 2 p.m. and is expected to announce additional measures, although the details of any forthcoming announcements are not known at this time.
This is an ongoing news story that will be updated as additional information becomes available.
