In the world of prescription and over-the-counter medication, things can get very confusing. That's why the Ocean County Health Department is hosting a special workshop tomorrow in Barnegat.

The Safe Medication Management program is designed to specifically target the needs of the senior community. A Health Educator will discuss and answer questions and review topics such as why, when and how to manage your medication regimen. The program will include understanding your prescriptions, how to take your medication correctly, medication interactions, and facts about over the counter medication.

Communicating with your healthcare provider will also be discussed in this program. A question and answer period will follow and handouts and other give-a-ways distributed. Often times, people forget to address their concerns with a doctor or pharmacist. This program will act as a supplement to information that should be received by a healthcare professional.

Health Department Spokesperson Leslie Terjesen says the Health Department is able to offer this program to seniors through a grant from the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. She adds "There is so much information offered in this program to help our residents manage their mediations more effectively." The event is also sponsored by the Ocean Township Municipal Alliance Program.

The program will be held at the 11th Street Community Center, 239 11th Street, Barnegat, on Wednesday, November 30th from 11:00am to 12:00pm

You can register by contacting Andrea Impreveduto at 732-341-9700 extension 7227 or John Clayton at extension 7277.
