Rumson Police break up "Corona Party" with 30people in attendance

Update: Rumson Police updated their statement on Facebook Sunday morning saying that the matter is presently under investigation and charges are pending.

On a normal Saturday night, having a get together and blasting some Pink Floyd would be fine but these are not normal times and social gatherings are not permitted under Governor Murphy's directive for everyone's health and safety to flatten the curve of the coronavirus.

On Saturday night, Rumson Police said they responded to a call about 30 people gathered on the front lawn of a house on Blackpoint Road near Wood Lane.

Police said they were met upon arrival by 30 people between the ages of 40-50 years old who were gathered in the middle of the road and on the front lawn attending an acoustic concert of Pink Floyd's greatest hits, and some of them brought lawn chairs.

The concert was performed by two guitarists with microphones and amplifiers who were broadcasting the concert on facebook live in addition to their front lawn.

Rumson Police said that when they asked everyone to leaved in accordance with Governor Murphy's executive orders, "we were met with well wishes of "F-the police" and "Welcome to Nazi Germany" from this group of 40-50 year old ADULTS."

"As the old saying goes, in the midst of all this chaos, the band still played on, that is until they were advised in the middle of the 1975 classic "Wish you were here", that they must stop the show.

Sadly I'm sure we all "wish we could be here", and the Rumson Police Department takes no enjoyment in ruining anyone’s fun! However we ALL have a responsibility to take this pandemic SERIOUSLY and adhere to the social distancing requirement.

We also need to be a good role model for our children and be kind and understanding during these times."

Police are asking that everyone see this and use it as a learning experience and reminder for the kind of gatherings that are not allowed.

They said that if they have to respond to another "corona party" they will be using a zero tolerance approach and everyone involved will be charged with Disorderly Conduct.

"We are all in this together and together we need to make smarter choices."

In Ocean County, Lakewood Police have broken up multiple weddings, engagement parties, funerals and other large social gatherings across different neighborhoods in the township over the last few weeks and several criminal complaints and even child endangerment charges were issued for violation of Governor Murphy's 'Do Not Gather' Directive.
