Police investigating death of young child in Lakewood

Multiple law enforcement agencies are in Lakewood investigating the death of a young child.

Lakewood Police Captain Gregory Staffordsmith confirmed to WOBM News that they're investigating the death of a young child and more information would be released as it becomes available.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer confirmed to WOBM News that this is an active investigation.

The circumstances surrounding the death are unclear at this time.

An Ocean County resident told WOBM News that a large police presence was heading through Lakewood in the area of Route 70 and 88 just after 1:00 pm on Monday afternoon.

It's not known where the child was found.
