It’s been a very different year for those who play Little League Baseball which cancelled the World Series they host each August in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

However there was a summer season even if it started much later than usual and it ends this weekend with the New Jersey State Tournament where a pair of Ocean County little leagues will play host.

The Little League Tournament for 10 to 12-year olds which normally leads to Williamsport will be at the Holbrook Complex in Jackson.  District 18 champion Brick won the Section 3 championship last weekend and is one of four teams vying for the state title.

They will play Somers Point on Saturday at 2pm and if they win advance to the finals on Sunday against either Madison or Englewood Cliffs.  By the way Holbrook is also the site of the Little League Softball Tournament this weekend.

District 18 and Section 3 champions Manchester Little League

The State Senior League Tournament (13-16 year-olds) will take place at Al Leiter Field in Bayville and feature the District 18 and Section 3 champion Manchester Little League. They play under the lights Saturday at 5:30 against Cherry Hill American and a victory sends them into Sunday’s title game against Parsippany Troy East or the Roberto Clemente Little League of Jersey City.

While there is no World Series winning a state championship is quite an accomplishment so good luck to both Brick and Manchester.

Pandemic or not, Toms River PBA #137 and Pizza Hut of Toms River will partner up Monday for their 30th Annual Vest-A-Cop fundraiser.  In a sign of the times the event will be held under the Pine Belt Tent at the Pizza Hut on Route 37 East from 4-9pm Monday with police officers from Toms River serving as waiters and waitresses.

As always all money raised will go towards the bullet proof vest fund and it will be a true family event with music, a dunk tank and entertainers from “A Land and Sea Mermaid Company.”
