Pedestrian dies after being struck by 2 vehicles in Toms River
A woman crossing Route 9 in Toms River Monday night was killed after being struck by two vehicles, according to Township police.
Police spokesman Ralph Stocco said 44-year-old Kimberly VanPelt of Neptune City initially was struck at 6 p.m. at the Stevens Road intersection by a pick-up truck heading southbound on Route 9. The impact threw her into the northbound lane where she was struck by a second vehicle.
Police and EMS units found VanPelt incapacitated in the roadway and lifesaving attempts failed, according to Stocco. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
The crash remains under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Robert Westfall, the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.
