Ocean County homeowners feel the effects of Nor’Easter
During the peak of the Nor'Easter hammering the Jersey Shore Wednesday night, a Toms River man was hit by a tree and downed power lines have weakened a home in Manchester.
Toms River Police, Fire and EMS responded to the NJ Transit Bus Terminal on Highland Parkway after a man was struck by a falling tree while asleep in a tent in the wooded area along the property.
The 40-year old victim, whose named wasn't disclosed, was found pinned to the ground underneath the tree that succumbed to the building pressure of the snow around 10:40 pm Wednesday.
The man was conscious and alert and transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
In Manchester Township, about 1,600 residents of the thousands across Ocean County were without power from the storm.
Police say officers have been continuing to respond to reports of low-hanging or downed power lines which have led to a number of road closures as a safety precaution.
The 1300 block of Broadway Boulevard in the Pine Lake Park section had a police presence this morning after falling power lines ripped the front facade of a residence straight off.
Police say nobody inside the home was injured and crews are on scene working to make repairs to the damage.
The Manchester Township Office of Emergency Management has established a warming station at the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department on Route 571 for any residents without heat or electric today.
The warming station is fully staffed with volunteers and coffee, water and donuts are available.
