According to information from Rutgers University, the idea of throwing a formal inaugural ball for a new New Jersey governor really didn’t become a thing until the late 20th century.

One of the earliest well-documented examples was in 1994, when Governor Christine Todd Whitman was sworn in and celebrated with an inaugural ball. Before that, governors were inaugurated without much evidence of big, public gala-style events like the ones we’re used to seeing today.

The latest Inaugural Ball here in the Garden State will take place on Tuesday, January 20th, and it is going to be a big party at the American Dream Complex in East Rutherford.

When is the New Jersey Governor's Inaugural Ball 2026?

According to a recent article from Patch, it's going to be a big party next week in New Jersey to celebrate a new Governor in the Garden State.

"About 2,000 attendees are expected at the $350-per-person event. The money will go to Sherrill's initiative Mission to Deliver NJ, which provides affordable services to vulnerable people."

What is Governor Elect Mickie Sherrill's "Mission to Deliver NJ" Project?

According to reports, Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill’s “Mission to Deliver NJ” is her way of getting ready to run the state. It’s about listening to people, getting advice, and putting together a plan before she officially takes office.

The focus is on everyday issues like the cost of living, jobs, schools, and making the state government easier and more helpful for residents. The goal is to be ready to get to work right away and start making things better for New Jerseyans.

According to Patch, "Tickets will be available for the ball, celebrating both Sherrill and Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell, until today (Jan. 12th)."
