Everything You Need To Know When Blueberry Picking
BLUEBERRY PICKING 101

Let's begin with a brief look at the "blueberry". I enjoy blueberries very much, whether it's just eating them on their own, in blueberry jam, or a blueberry pie. Not only delicious, but very good for you.
Blueberries are one of those foods that are as good for you as they are delicious. They're packed with antioxidants, along with vitamin C, fiber, and other nutrients that can help support your heart, brain, and overall health.
I like them because they're easy to enjoy. Grab a handful for a snack, toss them on your cereal, or mix them into yogurt. And if they're fresh-picked from a New Jersey farm or your own backyard, even better!
Are you a blueberry fan? I know I'm looking forward to the day my blueberry bushes are producing enough berries to enjoy every summer.

What You Need To Know About Blueberry Picking
First, let's talk about the heat. Blueberries are ready for picking in the summer, and it's hot. Blueberry bushes are not in shaded areas, so there is lots of sun.
What Can You Do To Beat The Heat While Blueberry Picking?
- Wear light colored clothing. Something that breathes well.
- Bring a hat. You definitely need a hat that covers your head and provides shade around your neck. Have water with you to stay hydrated while you pick. We often end up picking for hours, and you need your water.
- Wear sunscreen.
- If you get tired or overheated, take a break.
What Blueberries Should I Pick Off The Bush?
People will often say "the best fruit is under the bush," and I definitely believe that is true. Look under the leaves and lower on the bush. You want bigger berries instead of small ones. You want a nice blue color. Avoid lighter-looking berries or ones that are a pink/red hue. Stick with bigger blue berries every time.
What Do I Need To Bring For Blueberry Picking?
- Wear comfortable shoes.
- Bring a good bag to put your blueberry pint containers in, once you have picked them.
- I usually don't have much trouble with bugs when picking, but we do bring insect repellent just in case.
- Bring your camera/phone to get some fun pics and video while you are picking.
