New Jersey City Named the Worst for Valentine’s Day, But Not For Why You Think

Technically it was named the second worst.

Happy Valentine's Day!  By now you've probably got plans set up for this evening.  Hopefully, they're not in this New Jersey city, since it was named one of the worst in the US for the holiday.

WalletHub ranked the largest US Cities from the best to worst places to celebrate Valentine's Day.  They took a few things into account for this: budget, activities, gift accessibility, and weather forecast.  It's obvious that this NJ city tanked in the weather forecast area (even though we have an unseasonably warm day today), but the main reason why it scored low is surprising.

Budget had the most weight in WalletHub's scoring process, and that makes sense since according to the website, the average  American spends $193 on Valentine's Day (can you introduce me to this person, because I don't feel that's ever been the case for me).  Activities were next important, and the weather forecast had the least amount of pull in the standings.

Before I let you know which New Jersey city ranked 99th out of 100, here are the top 5 best cities to celebrate Valentine's Day: San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, San Diego, CA, Las Vegas, NV, and Portland, OR.  Apparently, the west coast is where it's at.

Shout out to Jersey City, who did rank 41 on the list.  While it's not the best, it's certainly not the worst.

Newark takes the title of the second worst city for Valentine's Day, only followed by Detroit.  Even though I doubt anyone has said "it would be really romantic to spend Valentine's Day in Newark," it's still a little embarrassing.

But, the reason why Newark ended up so low isn't that it's not the prettiest or safest town.  Apparently, it is the second most expensive city for a three-course meal for two.  Were they looking at food prices at the Prudential Center or Newark Airport?
