What Are The Chances Of Getting Struck By Lightning?

If you've ever watched a thunderstorm roll across New Jersey, you've probably wondered, "What are the chances of getting struck by lightning?"

The good news is, it's pretty rare. The odds of being struck by lightning in any given year are about 1 in 1.2 million. Over the course of a lifetime, the odds increase to roughly 1 in 15,000, according to weather experts.

Lightning is nothing to fool around with. Every year, people across the country are seriously injured or killed because they stayed outside just a little too long. If you hear thunder, that's your cue to head indoors. Remember the saying: When thunder roars, go indoors. It could save your life or the life of others.

In addition, the Patch article added that "the man's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin."
