So, what exactly is a data center? Well, think of it as a big building filled with computers that store and handle tons of information.

Every time you send an email, watch a video, post something on social media, shop online, or use an app, there’s a lot of information moving around behind the scenes. Data centers are where much of that information is stored and processed.

These buildings can be pretty large, and those computers have to stay running all day and night. That means they need a lot of electricity and plenty of cooling to keep everything from getting too hot.

And with more people using the internet, streaming, storing photos and videos, and especially using AI, we're seeing more and more demand for these facilities.

Where Are Data Centers in Ocean and Monmouth Counties?

Ocean County has data-center facilities too, but nothing on the scale of the large AI campuses we're seeing proposed in other parts of New Jersey.

That could change, though, as demand for data centers continues to grow and companies look for more places to build.

When it comes to data centers, Monmouth County is already on the map. Wall Township is home to NJFX, a major telecommunications and data center facility, and there are plans for a new 10-megawatt AI data center there as well.

I think it seems we are in a "catch-22" scenario when it comes to Data Centers. For example, you need a job to get experience, but employers want you to have experience before they’ll give you a job. That’s a Catch-22.

It's the same here, we need our "data" but to have it you need the "center". So we must decide how much data we need and how we generate it.
