Ocean Township, NJ man pleads guilty to engaging in sexual acts on video chat with juvenile
An Ocean Township man, who was arrested in June of 2019, for engaging in several sexual acts on a video chat with a minor, pleaded guilty in court this week for luring and child endangerment.
Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey said that Barton Cross-Tierney 2nd, 31, of Ocean Township, pled guilty, under a plea agreement, to third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child and third-degree Exhibiting Obscenity to a Minor.
Cross-Tierney, faces up to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison, mandatory Megan’s Law registration, and Parole Supervision for Life, under the terms of the plea agreement.
It was in December of 2018 that his heinous activity came to light after a female juvenile called the FBI's tip-line reporting that she engaged in an inappropriate online relationship with a man from Ocean Township, who had been using the 'Discord' username, "Barton Cross", according to Acting Prosecutor Linskey.
Investigators learned that Barton Cross had committed several sexual acts in a video chat with this specific victim, but they also learned the did the same thing in another video chat with a separate juvenile victim.
In fact, throughout 2018, Acting Prosecutor Linskey said that the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office had received several Cybertips about a user on Discord, who was engaging in inappropriate conversations with underage girls.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit, the Ocean Township Police department, members of the ICAC Task Force, and the FBI worked on this investigation and authorities were able to determine “Barton Cross” was actually Barton C. Cross-Tierney, of Franklin Parkway in Ocean Township, NJ.
Barton Cross is scheduled to be sentenced on May 13, 2022
The case is being prosecuted by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Stephanie Dugan.
Cross-Tierney is represented by Michael L. Kuhns, Esq. of Lawrence Township.
