The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office is enhancing patrols ahead of the Jewish holiday and the United Nation's General Assembly. Sheriff Shaun Golden said they're working with local police to conduct routine security checks at critical infrastructures and maintaining the security of area residents.

According to the sheriff's office press release, they will be supplementing local police patrols at various locations, including ferry terminals and other major transportation hubs. In addition, the sheriff's office K-9 units will be sweeping ferry terminals and train stations.

"Patrols will also be increased around synagogues, schools and houses of worship during the High Holy Days, as requested," said Golden.

They're asking that people remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown Wednesday and ends at Sundown Friday.
