A medical episode Wednesday caused a Silver Chevy Impala to leave its lane of travel on Route 520 and Ladwood Drive in Holmdel around 11:22 am and strike a school bus head-on.

The 68-year old driver of the Impala from Holmdel was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.

Police say during the accident the Impala left its lane of travel, entered into the westbound lane and struck a Helfrich Bus Company School Bus head-on, which had just picked up seven children from the Holmdel Village Elementary School.

The accident is still under investigation by Patrolman James Corrigan.

Holmdel Police ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash to contact Patrolman Corrigan at 732-946-4400 Extension 1888.
