Police believe the shooting of a resident in the Shark River Hills section of Neptune was the result of an attempted home burglary.

Monmouth prosecutors says neighbors called 911 yesterday morning when they heard the victim call for help as he lay in the street with a gun shot wound to the left side of his rib cage.

The victim told investigators two men attempted to tie him up and demanded money but was shot when he bit one of them. Police conducted an aerial search for the suspects' vehicle without success.
