Lakehurst resident facing charges for threatening a man with a knife
It was a cell phone deal in the dead of night that led to a Lakehurst man's arrest.
Police say 22-year old Christopher DuPont allegedly held a grey switchblade to an Ocean Township man meeting him to buy a cell phone by the Chestnut/Myrtle Street area in the Pinehurst Estates Apartment Complex around 9:50 pm January 20.
Dupont then took the 45-year old's money, wallet and car keys while they were in a nearby parking lot meeting up at a mutually agreeable point.
The victim had bought the phone DuPont was advertising on the app 'LetGo'.
The Ocean Township man was told he was meeting a man named "Ron Shafto".
When the two of them met up, DuPont got into the victims car and pressed a knife against them and demanded the money.
The victim gave a description of DuPont to Police who were able to collar him on February 1 at an Oak Street home where they believe he was living.
Dupont’s previous violent criminal history, as well as, the fact that he was out on bail for a previous Attempted Kidnapping/Robbery charges, a NO KNOCK Warrant was obtained to enter his residence that day, according to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.
He was taken without incident into custody.
Dupont is charged with First degree robbery, theft, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon and then was lodged in the Ocean County jail.
His detention hearing is set for tomorrow, Wednesday February 7.
The Ocean County Prosecutors Office High Tech Crime Unit, Ocean County Sheriff's Department K9 and Criminal Investigations unit, and the Ocean County Regional SWAT team all assisted Lakehurst Police in the investigation.
The public is reminded that criminal charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
