Jackson Police hires three new officers into their department

The Jackson Township Police Department is adding to its team of community protectors and heroes on the blue line with the hiring of three new officers.

Jackson Police Chief Matthew Kunz said in a statement the officers were appointed by the township and were sworn in by the township clerk at the council meeting this week.

First up is Police Officer Zachary Schwartz #323 who was hired as the department’s newest fully sworn officer.

Schwartz is a lifelong Jackson resident and graduate of Jackson Liberty High School who went on to earn degrees from Ocean County College and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

He graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy SLEO Class and worked for Seaside Heights Police as a Class 2 Special Law Enforcement Officer.

Schwartz has some required agency in service training to complete, attend abbreviated training to receive his full police certification and will start in the field training program after that alongside a Field Training Officer before being assigned to a patrol squad.

Police Officer Tyler Melnick #063 has been hired as a Class 2 Special Law Enforcement Officer.

Like Schwartz, he is a lifelong Jackson resident and graduate of Jackson Liberty High School.

He went on to earn a degree from Stockton University then graduated from the Monmouth County Police Academy SLEO Class and worked for the Asbury Park Police Department as a Class 1 and most recently as a Class 2 Special Law Enforcement Officer.

Police Officer David DeJesus #064 has been hired as a Class 2 Special Law Enforcement Officer.

He is a lifelong Jackson resident like Schwartz and Melnick but graduated from Jackson Memorial High School.

DeJesus is currently attending Kean University working toward a degree but has graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy SLEO Class and was employed by the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department and most recently the Lambertville Police Department as a Class 2 Special Law Enforcement Officer.

Chief Kunz said that Officers Melnick and DeJesus will be attending required agency in service training, will be assigned to a Field Training Officer for training and then be assigned to assist with duties such as court security, traffic details and enforcement.
