South Jersey Company Builds Free Deck For Local Veteran
This one's a reminder that some of the best stories are happening right in our own backyard.
South Jersey veterans received a powerful show of community support this week after a local company stepped up to build and donate a brand-new deck to a most deserving veteran.
A South Jersey Company Giving Back To Veterans
Good news can feel rare these days, which is exactly why this story deserves the spotlight.
The team at Veterans Decks & Railings recently completed a free deck installation for a local veteran through their “Deck For A Vet” initiative.
The goal is simple but meaningful: give back to the men and women who served by creating a safe, comfortable space where they can relax with family and enjoy their home again.
What started as a small idea has grown into something bigger. It’s now bringing the community together while honoring those who sacrificed for it.
It’s More Than Just A Deck
According to Carrie, the fiancé of owner Jake Schnitzel, the project was a long time in the making.
She shared that Jake spent countless hours planning, coordinating, and working behind the scenes to turn the idea into reality. Watching the project finally come to life, she said, has been both a privilege and an honor.
There’s another layer to the story too: Jake himself is a veteran.
A Personal Reminder Of What Service Means
Stories like this hit home for me.
My dad was a veteran, and I didn’t even know he fought in Vietnam until after he passed away. I knew he was in the military, but never knew that fact. Like so many others from that generation, he rarely talked about it.

That’s why seeing someone have a soft spot for veterans, especially right here in South Jersey, genuinely brings a tear to my eye.
Huge shoutout to all veterans across South Jersey. Thank you to Veterans Decks & Railings for showing what giving back to your community really looks like.
