If you take I-76 every morning to get to Cherry Hill or Collingswood, I really hate being the bearer of this news. I truly do.

This one’s too big to ignore, though. That’s especially true if your weekday routine depends on Exit 1D.

Exit 1-D On I-76 Is Closing

According to the folks over at 42Freeway, Exit 1D on I-76... the one that splits left toward Gloucester City or up into Collingswood and Cherry Hill... is about to be fully closed starting January 19th; and not for a weekend. Or a week. Try roughly two months.

Apparently, there’s a pipe underneath the roadway that needs immediate attention, and crews will be out there until at least mid-to-late March getting things sorted.

What Roads Are Still Open?

The good news (if we can call it that): Route 130 and the Brooklawn Circle will remain open.

The bad news? Do not assume I-76 is going to magically better because you think people will be avoiding it during the closure. They won’t. That exit is completely off the table, but those who don’t know that will be screaming quite a few expletives once they find out.

Expect A LOT Of Traffic

This closure is almost guaranteed to push more cars onto Route 130, and honestly, that road already has enough personality. Expect heavier congestion there, plus backups on I-76 westbound toward Philly, especially during peak commute hours.
