I Used to Rescue Turtles With My Grandmother at the Jersey Shore. Does Anyone Still Do That?

I've only lived in Jersey for 5 years; that being said, I've been visiting the Jersey Shore since before I could walk. Growing up, we had a house in Sea Isle City, and up until 2012 or so, we spent every summer there. One of our favorite things to do was ride our bikes around the island and up Sea Isle Boulevard looking for turtles crossing the street.

My grandmother loved turtles, and some of my best memories with her and my mom involved scouring the island for turtles that needed a little help getting across the street and into the marshy areas that surrounded Sea Isle.

Are There As Many Turtle Crossing Areas In Ocean County, NJ?

Fast forward to 2026, and I'm a full-time resident in Ocean Gate, and I love living life near the beach, but I've noticed, and I could be wrong here, that turtle crossings don't seem to be as prominent near Seaside, Lavallette, Point Pleasant, and Asbury like they were down in Sea Isle, Ocean City, and Stone Harbor.

Am I missing something? From what I understand, Ocean County has a few spots that are turtle havens near Manahawkin, Little Egg Harbor, and LBI.

Where Do You Go To Look For Turtles In Ocean County, NJ?

Maybe I'm just riding around the wrong parts of the Shore, but I'd love to spend a day riding my bike along the marsh, looking for turtles and helping them get to the other side of the street so they can get back to their marshy homes.
