Handgun Showing, Barnegat Man Arrested, Say Police

It wasn't a concealed weapon that landed a Barnegat 23-year-old in hot water with the law, say township police...it was a plainly visible one.

Donovan Wainwright was charged with weapons possession Wednesday after being spotted by patrol officers on Emerald Drive with the grip of a handgun protruding from his waistband, according to police.

Authorities say the officers found the unloaded .22-caliber handgun along with several packets of heroin.

Wainwright faces second-degree counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon, a third-degree heroin-possesion charge, and a fourth-degree charge of certain persons not to possess weapons.

He was placed in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River with bail set at $50,000.
