Let's meet the men that are feverishly training to make this epic journey. Looking at the photo directly above, we start on the left with Bryan Zinski of Summa Love, Surfing and Yoga, followed by Chris Macioch of the Oceanport Paddle Club, to his right is Jeremy Julio of Last Bite Mosquito and Tick Control, and finally John Majeskie the owner of SERVPRO of Eatontown/Long Branch and Hackensack/Little Ferry. These business behemoths are putting their love of paddling to the test, along with their passion for helping others out.
On Saturday, June 5th at, roughly, 7:30 am they will set off from the Shrewsbury River on a 5 to 7-hour adventure through rough waters, wind, currents, and boat and barge congestion. They'll be escorted by 3 support boats that will ensure their safety, provided assistance if needed, look out for approaching vessels, and do their best to clear their path. The ending point comes 30 miles later at the tip of Manhattan.
While some of these men have completed some pretty epic adventures like a 100-mile century bike ride, triathlons, and even the David Goggins 4/4/48 challenge (run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 straight hours), this one is the most unique. John shared that the "NJ to NYC Team" has been training hard with ocean work, river work, and has gone as far as 15 miles. They've endured early mornings, snow, wind, and ice to prepare and they'll be ready for June 5th.
When this challenge is completed, they hope to have raised awareness and funding for their causes. They share that "Majeski is paddling for the Kortney Rose Foundation, an organization dedicated to eradicating pediatric brain tumors. Julio is supporting the Lyme Light Foundation, which supports children and young adults with Lyme disease and raises awareness about the illness. Macioch has chosen CASA of Ocean County, an independent, non-profit organization, whose mission is to advocate for the best interest of the vulnerable children in foster care. Zinski is paddling for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Coastal & Northern New Jersey, who aim to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth."
