In Trenton Friday, former Chief John Terruso, 46, of Marlton, was given a maximum six-year sentence, including three years of parole ineligibility, according to the office of New Jersey Attorney General Christoipher S. Porrino.

Terruso pleaded guilty to a second-degree distribution charge and a third-degree possession charge at the end of May. He's required to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law, is ordered to undergo lifetime parole supervision, and is permanently barred from public office and public employment in New Jersey.

Terruso was arrested in June 2015 at the fire station, following a probe initiated by the Divison of Criminal Justice, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, in Newark.

A HSI special agent monitoring child pornography activity in cyberspace identified an internet protocol code. It was traced to a shared folder, in a PC, in the firehouse. Investigators said that they found more than 1,000 salacious files, including videos of boy-to-boy and boy-to-man acts, in equipment Terruso used. His plea included an admission that he copied the files.

Deputy Attorney General John Nicodemo led the prosecution and managed the sentencing phase for the government. Terruso was represented by Somers Point attorney Andrew Butchko.
