A former Burlington Township police officer, whose car crash in Florence Township last September killed his passenger, begins a four-year prison term for vehicular homicide.

Justin Rodriguez, 25, was sentenced today in Mount Holly, according to the office of Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina.

Rodriguez was not on duty and was driving his own Acura Integra. Investigators determined that Rodriguez's blood alcohol level exceeded New Jersey's legal limit of .08 when the collision ocurred on September 23, 2016. His car hit a utility pole on West Front Street.

Williams was pronounced died at the scene. Rodriguez was hospitalized for five days at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.

Prosecutor's spokesman Joel Bewley noted that the victim's family spoke in court for the better part of an hour during the sentencing.
