Say what you will about the fact that public beaches in New Jersey charge to get on them, it is what it is, but one Shore town is trying to make it easier to get a daily pass with a technology upgrade.

Much like the parking machines that are in all of the major beach towns, Asbury Park has installed beach badge machines.

In this day and age, I can't say that it's not a good idea.

Plenty of people don't carry cash with them, especially when they're going to spend the day on the sand, and almost all of the stands where beach badges are sold are cash-only.

This actually gives Asbury beachgoers a couple options to buy their daily beach badges:

  • You can go old school and pay a human at a manned booth
  • You can use one of the new machines
  • You can download the Viply app and pay right on your phone (plus a processing fee, naturally)

So, what do you think, should all of our beach town put in machines like the ones in Asbury Park? Join the conversation on our Facebook page!
