EHT Investigators Probe Crash That Killed Somers Point Man
A Tuesday-morning SUV crash in Egg Harbor Township that took the life of the driver remains under investigation, as police try to determine why the vehicle drifted off a street and into a tree without slowing.
Robert M. Woods Jr., 75, of Somers Point, was declared dead at Shore Medical Center after being treated by Atlanticare Paramedics and the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad.
The crash unfolded on Schoolhouse Road at Bevis Mill Road in the township's Scullville section, where police were summoned at about 5:51 AM.
Woods was behind the wheel of a 2003 Chevrolet Yukon. Police said that it veered off the southbound side of Schoolhouse Road and impacted the tree without braking or slowing. Traffic was detoured around the spot for about an hour.
EHT Police Officer Thomas Rocco leads the investigation.
