Egg Harbor Township police say Officer William Reed and his K-9 partner, Santino, were on routine patrol when the crash occurred around 8:10 p.m. Monday.

Police say a 17-year-old township resident — whose name wasn’t disclosed — was driving a sport utility vehicle and had a 17-year-old male passenger with him. The driver only has a supervised permit, meaning a licensed adult must travel with him.

The two teens were treated at a hospital and later released, while the 35-year-old Reed remained hospitalized Tuesday. Details on his injuries were not disclosed.

The police dog was not hurt.

The teen driver was issued several summonses.
