If you're a fan of both the Harry Potter franchise and awards shows, you were likely delighted when you tuned in to the 2016 MTV Movie Awards and saw Eddie Redmayne appear onstage. For those of you who didn't watch, here's why: The actor introduced an exclusive new trailer for his upcoming movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them during the show.

Redmayne rose from the stage floor to premiere the clip, which gives viewers the longest look yet at the upcoming movie, including a particularly nerve-wracking scene where Redmayne's character arrives in New York.

Fantastic Beasts marks author J.K. Rowling’s first attempt at screenwriting and follows the story of Redmayne’s character Newt Scamander, whose visit to New York City quickly turns disastrous when magical creatures escape from his briefcase.

"It all started when Warner Bros came to me with the suggestion of turning Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them into a film," said Rowling of her decision to helm the movie, in an interview with BBC. "I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of Fantastic Beasts, realized by another writer was difficult.”

Though Fantastic Beasts is set in the 1920s, Rowling says it's not a prequel to the Harry Potter series so much as it's a different look at the wizarding world she so thoroughly created with Potter. And it's true: Fantastic Beasts is set in the United States, offering fans an entirely new magical setting.
