The U.S. Coast Guard comes to the rescue of a man clinging to his kayak that capsized near Port Monmouth today. According to a report in the Associated Press, the man used his cell phone to call 9-1-1 and was wearing a life jacket when he was found by a crew from Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook.

Their report said, "a rescue boat crew member threw him a heaving line to pull him away from shoal water toward the Coast Guard boat.

The man had initially tried to swim back to shore, but had to stop after developing a severe leg cramp."
