Authorities said that cars Tuesday night were found with windows smashed, and looted of loose change, medications, and valuables that can be easily resold.

Police reinforce the importance of locking cars and either taking valuable items after parking, or keeping them well-hidden.

Keyport investigators urge passers-by and residents to report any suspicious activity to the dispatch center at headquarters, 732-264-0706.

If it's possible to maintain observation, police encourage witnesses to stay connected to dispatch operators until an officer arrives.

The advise against calling 911, to avoid the extra time involved in routing calls through county operators, and to quicken officers' response.
