Brick commuters have waited for this day for a long time, and now it's finally here.

Interchange 91 of the Garden State Parkway is now open to both on and off traffic both northbound and southbound.

As we told you earlier this week, the work that has been going on for years is finally coming to fruition, with the 91 northbound exit opening to off-ramp traffic today.

There are a couple of important points to know about, however:

  • You can no longer get onto the Parkway northbound directly from Burnt Tavern Road. As we told you about two weeks ago, if you're going west on Burnt Tavern, the ramp off the Burrsville Road jughandle is now closed. You'll have to take the new spur off of Burnt Tavern at the Greenbriar intersection across Lanes Mill Road.
  •

  • If you're going east on Burnt Tavern, you don't have to do two jughandles to get onto the northbound Parkway anymore. The new on-ramp just before the 7-11 is now open.
  •

  • And of course, the southbound ramps that have been open for a number of weeks continue to allow traffic to hop on at both Lanes Mill and off of Burnt Tavern.

There is still some work that has to be finalized, including a new left-turn lane at Burnt Tavern and Burrsville (I know! A left turn at a light in New Jersey, go figure!), so expect some delays as that work continues.

But the big openings that we've been waiting for are finally here, and it really is a big deal for those who live in the Herbertsville section of Brick.

Previously, you'd have to get off at Exit 90, take the jughandle at the high school and head down Chambersbridge Road, across Route 88, and down Lanes Mill Road just to get to the north end of Brick.

And of course if for some reason you missed your exit, you'd be stuck on the highway all the way until Exit 98 in Wall.

As always, we'll keep you updated on the latest traffic changes that will impact all of us here in Ocean County!
