With some New Jersey towns looking way ahead, with a few already announcing Independence Day celebration cancellations in the wake of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, one Ocean County community is looking at something that's right around the corner - Memorial Day 2020.

Today, Beachwood Mayor Ron Roma announced that borough officials came to the difficult decision of canceling this year's Memorial Day parade and service.

In a Friday press release, Mayor Roma announced the decision that was made along with the Borough Council as well as fire and police officials, but he also encouraged residents to still take some time to think of those that Memorial Day is truly about.

In the release, Mayor Roma said:

...we are asking that on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th at 12 noon, Beachwood residents take a moment out of their day to reflect upon those sacrifices and pray for those men and women and their families who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
