Bayside Park in Ortley Beach reopens July 18
The next step toward mending Ortley Beach's Superstorm wounds is about to be taken. Bayside Park, decimated in the October 2012 disaster, officially reopens July 18.
After Mayor Thomas Kelaher and Township Council members apply their big scissors to the ribbon at the Bay Boulevard entrance, visitors will encounter a space that's the same, yet completely different.
Township officials say that all facilities on the site have either been restored or rebuilt. The shoreline now has concrete armor matting and wetlands plantings for reinforcement. Light-emitting diode (LED) technology provides illumination. The sidewalks are new, with some color accents. Restrooms have new doors, partitions and fixtures. There is new landscaping, and a sitting area.
The park also features two tennis courts, two handball courts, a basketball court and a playground with swings and a pavilion.
Ribbon-cutting takes place at 9 AM.
