Investigators believe a fire at an Ocean County nursing home near the Jersey Shore started in a heating unit inside one of the patients' rooms.

No one was seriously hurt in the 5:30 a.m. blaze at the Laurelton Village Care Center in Brick Township.

Fire inspector Richard Orlando says nine patients and two police officers were taken to Ocean Medical Center because of smoke inhalation.

Most of the 128 patients in the facility were able to stay in other portions of the building. Some may later need to be transferred to another facility that the nursing home owns.

Portions of the facility suffered water damage, but the fire was contained to one room where two bed-ridden patients were staying.
