Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D), who has been holding hearings on whether lane closures on ramps to the George Washington Bridge last year were an act of political retribution says newly released emails and texts about the closures are "shocking" and "outrageous."

Wisniewski , the Assembly Transportation Committee Chairman said Wednesday that the documents call into question the honesty of Gov. Chris Christie and his staff.

They suggest a top Christie aide deliberately created traffic jams in a northern Jersey town last September as retribution against its mayor. They also contradict Christie's earlier assertions on the closures, when he denied they were punitive and said his staff wasn't involved.

Meanwhile, an attorney for David Wildstein was working to block his client from appearing before an Assembly committee on Thursday. Wildstein was a top appointee of Christie's to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He resigned in the wake of the controversy.
