The state Department of Education defines cases of violence as acts involving assault, criminal threats, extortion, fights, kidnapping, robberies and sex offenses.

In a recent article from Patch, the numbers were released for violent acts at school districts around the state from 2014 - 2015.

The Top 3 in the state were: Trenton Public School District, Willingboro and East Orange.

Here are the Top 10 school districts at the Jersey Shore with reported violent incidents:

1. Brick Township (76)
2. Toms River Regional (63)
3. Freehold Regional (62)
4. Lakewood (52)
5. Middletown (34)
6. Neptune (34)
7. Jackson Township (28)
8. Matawan-Aberdeen Regional (26)
9. Freehold Boro (23)
10. Manchester (21)

According to Mike Yaple, Spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Education, these numbers are reported by each district, so each jurisdiction is responsible for reporting their results fairly and accurately. But they are required by law to report them.

Are you surprised that Brick Township ranks #1?  What's your reaction to this report?
