A 34-year-old mother from Toms River is charged with heroin possession and endangering the welfare of a child, allegedly found unconscious in her car with her two-year-old son Saturday in Monmouth's Ocean Township.

Candice Victor was hospitalized and released, and her son was given to the New Jersey Department of Child Protection and Permanency for care, according to Ocean Township police.

Patrol Officer Michael Galvin found the woman and toddler in the car at about 6:14 PM Saturday afternoon, in a parking lot on Route 35 at West Park, police said.

Victor was treated at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Further investigatioins revealed five bags of heroin, syringes and other drug-related gear, police said.

She was cited at the hospital and released to await a municipal court date.
