I joke with my friends and family that every now and then, I feel like what I do is actually important. While I do feel like what we do here at WOBM on a daily basis, as far as community involvement is concerned, is valuable, it's times like this past weekend that the value of local radio really comes into focus.

As soon as the first words of the bombing in Seaside Park started to come in, there was never a question about what we needed to do.

We needed to get the best, most accurate information possible, and we need to get that information out to Ocean County in a timely and calm manner.

Obviously, when things like this happen there's a lot of speculation, rumor, and theories going around.

I feel like there are a lot of both professional and amateur news outlets these days who are more concerned with being first than being right.

Breaking news is important. Correct news is vital.

It's times like this that I'm most proud to be a part of the team here at WOBM and Townsquare Media New Jersey. We all have the same sense of duty to our local listeners and readers. And I feel like we do something that national news outlets can't do - in addition to reporting the actual news, we strive to put a local, human side to that news.

It's times like this that I feel like what we do is truly important.
