LINDEN – Police arrested a 16-year-old high school girl for making threats against her own school on Tuesday.

Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park said the teen was charged with making threats against Linden High School on Instagram messages with the account name "lhslasthours" leading to the school being placed on lockdown for four hours.

"My name is (redacted) and I will shoot up your school at 11:36 a.m. Do all of your little drills. I’m already in the building,” read part of the message.

The girl, whose identity Park did not disclose because of her age, is charged with juvenile complaints for making terroristic threats, creating a false public alarm, and cyber harassment. She was taken into custody on Tuesday pending a court appearance.

Under state law, teen offenders and their parents or guardians could be required to take cyber harassment awareness classes. The law does not prescribe any jail time.
