Frank Lautenberg Dies

Democrat Cory Booker has entered New Jersey's special Senate election  to fill the seat left open by the death of Frank Lautenberg.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker will announce on Saturday that he will be a candidate in the special Senate election on Saturday and Frank Pallone is expected to join the race as well.

If Gov. Chris Christie appoints a conservative to the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the death of Frank Lautenberg, the moderates Christie needs in this year's gubernatorial election will be ticked.

U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg's nearly three decades in office and the causes he championed were remembered at a funeral service in New York attended by Governor Chris Christie, much of the New Jersey Congressional delegation as well as former Governors McGreevey and Florio.

On the same day Frank Lautenberg's life was celebrated at his funeral in New York, Republican Steve Lonegan has announced he will run in a special election for Lautenberg's U.S. Senate seat.

Less than 24 hours after Gov. Chris Christie announced a special election will be held to permanently fill the seat left vacant by the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg at least four people are considering running in the election.
