Survivor Woman 101

I don't know about you but the recent weather-related power outages has got me seriously thinking about becoming "Survivor Woman." Really! My sister thinks I'm a bit obsessed but I figure that if these little weather events of late can cause that much misery, then what will an extreme long term natural disaster do?

I know the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management puts out a really good "Preparedness" pamphlet at www.ready.nj.gov but I want to follow their suggestions and go beyond buying up your standard beef jerky, tuna fish and canned soup. I'm planning on locating heating units that don't require the use of electricity and buying solar and manual powered everything.

The news story I did today is going to be a big help too. The environmental group National Resource Defense Council's interactive extreme weather map will go a long way in helping to pin point the worst possible weather scenario. You can access it at: www.nrdc.org/extremeweather
