TOMS RIVER — Gov. Chris Christie announced that towns devastated by Superstorm Sandy will be able to apply for reimbursement of funds they spent immediately after the storm.

Christie said Friday at the East Dover Fire Company in Toms River that towns in nine New Jersey counties could apply to get a share of $42 million in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery funds.

Towns were required to front the cost of 10 percent of recovery immediately after the storm, with the Federal Emergency Management Agency picking up 90 percent of the cost. The Republican governor says for some towns that 10 percent cost up to $1 million that burdened property taxpayers.
