A public employee intrusted with protecting the State's environmental regulations in Monmouth and Middlesex Counties ... will be heading to prison for violating that trust.  According to Patch.com, 51-year-old John Tonon of Lakewood, who served as an Inspector with the Wall Township-based Freehold Soil Conservation District, pleaded guilty to official misconduct and bribery charges Tuesday at the Monmouth County Courthouse.

Toonan confessed to accepting a $700 cash dollar bribe from an undercover officer to expedite the permitting process for a home construction project.

The Monmouth County Prosecutors will ask for a five year sentence.  Sentencing is set for October 5th.
