Sandy the Second-Most Powerful Ever

It's the worst storm that ever hit the Jersey Shore.Hurricane Researcher Brian McNoldy at the University of Miami says it beat Hurricane Katrina in power.  Once Sandy ramped up to a Category 1 hurricane and slammed into our beautiful shore-line the storm's integrated kinetic energy was second only to Hurricane Isabel in 2003.

(IKE) Integrated kinetic energy is a new scale designed to better convey the destructive power from both a hurricane's wind and storm surge.  The IKE scale helps explain why Hurricane Sandy created such widespread flooding and damage.
