Sabra hummus recalled due to listeria at production facility
Bad news for hummus fans. Sabra is voluntarily recalling several varieties of it's popular chickpea-based dip due to listeria contamination at the company's production facility.
"We are disappointed to share the news of a voluntary recall with the Sabra community today. We're recalling this product out of an abundance of caution after finding listeria monocytognes at the manufacturing facility, but not in tested finished product," Sabra said on it's company Website Sunday.
Sabra said none finished hummus products tested positive for listeria. The company says it uses several food safety procedures to make sure no contamination or pathogens are present, including testing the finished hummus from the product line every two minutes.
"We want to reassure our consumers that our procedures include extensive finished product testing, and no products tested positive for contaminants. We are taking action because consumer safety is a top priority."
The recall includes Sabra products with a "best before" date up through Jan. 23, 2017. Anyone consumers who have products from the company with this date should discard them, the company says. The date can be found on the lid of each package.
The company says Sabra Organic Hummus, Sabra Salsa, Sabra Guacamole and Sabra Greek Yogurt Dips are not included in the recall.
