Poll: Christie Not Honest About Bridgegate [AUDIO]

An internal probe into the so-called Bridgegate scandal has cleared Gov. Chris Christie of any wrongdoing, but the majority of New Jersey residents don’t buy that. A new Monmouth University-Asbury Park Press poll also shows most Garden Staters don’t believe that Christie has come clean about his involvement in Bridgegate.

A report released by Randy Mastro, the attorney handpicked by the Christie administration to lead the internal probe into Bridgegate, claims a former Christie staffer and a former Port Authority official are the only ones to blame for the unannounced access lane closures in Fort Lee leading to the George Washington Bridge.

“Seventy-seven percent say more people were involved,” said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute. “Only 12 percent actually side with the findings of that report.”

Just 30 percent said the internal probe was a fair and unbiased investigation into what went on in the governor’s office. A little more than half (52 percent) think the report was done to improve Christie’s reputation.

“Forty-seven (percent) now think that the governor was involved, while 38 percent say he wasn’t involved in the decision to close the toll lanes,” Murray said. “Sixty-one percent say he has not been completely honest about what he knew. Just 32 percent say he has.”

Another scandal dogging Christie involves Hoboken mayor Dawn Zimmer, who claimed the administration tried to tie Superstorm Sandy aid to her support of a development project favored by Christie. The poll shows 45 percent believe Zimmer’s allegation while 35 percent do not.
